by Karsten Scholz - Are you also currently wondering how it was again with the dungeon and raid timers in vanilla WoW? How often was the ID allowed to visit Onyxia, Molten Core, and the other raid instances? How often could you bag loot in the 5-player dungeons? We'll tell you what to expect in WoW Classic.
The old hands remember: In vanilla WoW (buy now) there were already restrictions for the dungeons and raids that were intended to prevent motivated players from farming certain bosses over and over again. But how did that work with the lockout rules, limitations and the ID reset in detail? With a view to the upcoming release of WoW Classic, we'll tell you what you'll probably have to prepare for!
ID reset of raids since WoW Patch 1.9.0
The IDs of the large WoW Classic raid instances are reset every seven days. Source: Buffed It is well known that WoW Classic will be based on patch 1.12 in most areas. We are therefore currently assuming that Blizzard will not use the ID rules for the launch with regard to the raid area, but will use the calendar system introduced with patch 1.9. Here is an excerpt from the official patch notes from back then:
Raid Calendar System The raid logout system has been completely overhauled. The new system will reset all instances at a set server time, regardless of when a player was last assigned to an instance. The instance reset schedule is as follows:
Instance resets occur at times of least activity, when the fewest raids are active.
The assignment of the Raid ID is very strict:
And what about the world bosses?
The world bosses from Classic rarely appear, but when they are there, they have loot with them. Source: Buffed From Classic phase 2 onwards in Azeroth we have the chance to box around the world bosses Azuregos and Lord Kazzak. Starting in Phase 4, the range of world bosses will be expanded to include Lethon, Taerar, Emeriss, and Ysondre. However, you don't have to worry about loot restrictions with these world bosses. If they show up, they also have loot with them! It is more problematic to get the loot - because other raid groups are also keen on the kill, and it can sometimes take several days for a world boss to reappear after death - there is no fixed respawn timer . Thanks to the vanilla experience, the only thing that is clear is that the world bosses are usually not too long in coming after the server reset on Wednesday - they usually appear for the first time about 15 to 24 hours after the server reset.

Limitations for dungeon visits
There was no fixed ID reset for dungeons in vanilla WoW, but the developers introduced a different type of limitation over time: you can enter a maximum of five dungeon instances within an hour. As soon as you want to tackle the sixth instance within the hour, nothing happens when you stroll through the portal. You only get access when the hour is up.
Incidentally, the "Maximum of 5 instances per hour" rule also applies if you reset the dungeon you have just visited - you can do this using a reset function, which you can access by right-clicking on your portrait. Thanks to the reset, all enemies in the dungeon will appear again.
