A 21-year-old died of carbon monoxide poisoning at the beginning of July because of a defective gasher, a 16-year-old died in the federal capital for the same reasons at the end of June. The 18-year-old from Wels was saved at the last second.
Gashermen accidents: These are the reasons
The reasons why there can be a gas accident at all are diverse, as Tschematschar explains: "Often it is related to a lack of maintenance of the thermal baths.A trigger can also be a lack of space ventilation.Mobile air conditioning devices can also be a reason, since sucking in the air creates a vacuum and the gases cannot flow out."
A carbon monoxide accident does not necessarily have to take place in the room in which the thermal bath is: "The gas can hike through walls. Daher können auch andere Wohnungen betroffen sein", betont der Experte.
Maintenance of the thermal baths important
The fire brigade commander has the following tips for owners from Gastermen: "The UM and AUS is certainly the maintenance of the devices so that the gas can be burned properly. The ventilation of the room with gas boiler is very important."
Signs difficult to recognize
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a color and odorless gas.Recognizing a defective gasher is therefore a difficult thing: "Unfortunately, this is very difficult to notice.Signs can be dizziness and nausea up to vomiting. Betroffene verlieren schlussendlich das Bewusstsein", weiß Tschematschar, der Besitzern daher einen Kohlenmonoxid-Warnmelder in der Wohnung ans Herz legt.
Gasherme defective: so I behave correctly
If suspected, the expert recommends going into a safe area immediately and ventilating the room."As the next step, you should alert the red cross. The emergency services can use devices to determine whether carbon monoxide has actually concentrated in the room."
