When it comes to sailing, Bremerhaven Dirk Lahmann is a walking knowledge database.The 60-year-old skipper can look back on half a century of sailing experience, has already sailed the Hebrides off the northwest coast of Scotland, French Normandy and the Swedish Westerne shell.Most recently, he started with a six -member crew at Rolex Fastnet Race 2021 - a famous sailing regatta for yachts in the English Channel and in the Celtic Lake.With north | Lahmann spoke about a sensitive topic: Is sailing a sport for the thick wallet?And what are the costs for beginners?

Bevor Dirk Lahmann über Geld reden will, besteht er darauf, eine Sache vorauszuschicken: „Die Frage, ob Segeln ein teurer und exklusiver Sport für Wohlhabende ist oder aber ein tragbares Hobby für jedermann, ist nicht so eindeutig zu beantworten. Denn zwischen diesen beiden Annahmen besteht eine enorme Spannweite.“ Mit anderen Worten: Es komme immer darauf an, mit welchen Ansprüchen man an die Sache herangeht. „Wer bei Regatten mitsegeln und am besten noch um einen der vorderen Plätze wetteifern möchte, der bekommt es mit einem ganz anderen finanziellen Aufwand zu tun als ein einfacher Touren- oder Urlaubssegler“, so Lahmann.
