The current heating costs give cause for concern, especially with regard to fossil fuels. Now, however, the pellet prices are also rising nationwide. Does the price advantage over fossil fuels still remain stable?

Currently, pellet prices are rising, albeit more leisurely than fuel oil and natural gas prices. According to the German Pellet Institute (DEPI), this is seasonal. Managing Director Martin Bentele explains: & quot; stable and safe, this has been true for years on the price of wood pellets. & quot; the current increase is normal at the beginning of the cold season. "once again, it is clear that the domestic market for saw by-products is not affected by global trade in fossil fuels-except indirectly by e.g. the diesel price."

Pellet price: great advantage over fuel oil and natural gas

On average, the pellet price for one tonne (t) is 248.08 euros (decrease 6 t). The DEPI survey thus recorded an increase of 4.8 percent on September and 9.1 percent on the previous year.

Pelletspreise: Vom restlichen Brennstoff-Markt unbeeindruckt?

One kilogram of pellets costs 24.81 cents, the kWh heat 4.96 cents. The price advantage for heating oil, or natural gas, is 45 and 24 percent respectively, whereby the enormously increased wholesale prices are not yet fully illustrated here.

Prices vary from region to region

For the price of wood pellets, the following regional differences occur in October 2021 (acceptance quantity 6 t): in Central Germany pellets cost 243.55 Euro / t and are the cheapest as in the previous month. In northern and eastern Germany, the average pellet price is 248.96 euros / t, in southern Germany 249.02 euros.

Larger quantities (26 t) will be traded in October 2021 on the following conditions: South: 236,86 euros / t, middle: 226,16 euro / t, north and east: 233,60 euros / t (all incl. VAT).

Investment in pellets and pellet heating

The federal government promotes the conversion of oil heaters to pellet heaters with up to 45 percent of costs. Various installation costs and the dismantling of the oil heating can be covered by the extraction. The change is profitable to the institute in the medium term.

Owners of pellet heaters and pellet fireplaces do not have to fear the current headlines about buying pellets. The German Pellet Institute publishes the pellet prices at a monthly rate.
