Air conditioning for the home – the most important selection criteria
The following summary shows which equipment features and properties are important in an air conditioning system for the home, apart from those already mentioned in the brief overview:
Refrigerant: The environmentally friendly refrigerant R290 is being used more and more in home air conditioning systems. Attention: some models still use the synthetic refrigerant R410A, which will be banned from 2025.
Cooling capacity: Often referred to under the abbreviation BTU, which stands for "British Thermal Unit" and indicates the amount of energy required to cool one British pound of water down one degree Celsius. One BTU/h corresponds to 0.29287 watts.
EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio): This value indicates how much heat a device can absorb in a certain period of time. The EER value thus provides information about the energetic value of an air conditioner. The higher its COP, the more energy-efficient it works.
