Like the new and classic outfits of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, created

The Guardians are not only good at saving the galaxy - they also look really good.For Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy, we have created over 40 outfits for the team-from classic comic looks to completely new designs.

When we started creating our own looks, we wanted to work with a Marvel comic artist who has recovered various Marvel superheroes over time: the talented RB Silva.We worked with him to design a number of team outfits that clearly say “This is our outfit for the final fight for the fate of the galaxy.”We had the opportunity to ask him a few questions about the creation of the Golden Guardians' outfits, and also show you a few exclusive insights into the concept art.

How did you get the basic idea of the “Golden Guardians” outfits?

RB Silva: I was immediately told by Eidos Montréal and Marvel that some of the expected costumes were intended for a team and I had a lot of ideas for.But one of the ideas I recorded was that these outfits should be a kind of armor or something similar.As soon as the material was clear, the ideas came naturally.

How did you adapt this core concept for each of the Guardians - five character emit very different stature?

RB Silva: First I had to establish a common element that would make the outfits a team outfit.The simple part was the color.With the people at Eidos Montreal and Marvel, we quickly stated that the outfits should be white and gold.The difficult part came - just a joke!But developing the outfits so that they match the size, body type and personality was very important to us.Many forms of Rocket Racons armor were not functional for Star Lord's armor.The collaboration with Eidos Montreal and Marvel was super and we were able to develop the individual concept for every character with a few sketches.

What was your favorite aspect of the design process for these outfits?

RB Silva: to see the characters together, everyone with something visually similar but also different I liked it very much.I have researched a lot and had access to a database with many military uniforms and it may not always be easy to recognize the many military properties in the outfits, but they are there (LOL)!I had to think about something very reserved that fits extreme, aggressive conditions - a costume that a teenager sews in his room to fight the crime would not fit here.

I really liked the final results from the 3D modeling team.

What was the biggest challenge in these outfits?

RB Silva: Undoubtedly, the most difficult part was to find elements that would express the personality of the individual characters in every scenario.The creative team of Eidos-Montréal sent me a few references and shapes that were used in the development in the game universe, and that helped me enormously, but at the same time I was limited in how far I could go and which forms I usecould.That was an interesting challenge that was certainly solved in an incredibly satisfactory way.I am full of praise for the entire creative team of Eidos Montreal and Marvel-they are cool!

When it comes to the classic comic outfits, we could play with a lot of material.The Guardians have been around for 50 years and some of their looks to recreate our game was really fun.Let us take a look at a classic look for every Guardian:

Star Lord-Team Lord outfit

The series by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning were one of the most important inspirations for our game, so there was no question that we wanted to incorporate some looks of the 2008 phase.Team Lord was an easy choice and an interesting challenge because the helmet of Star Lord is very unique.

Rocket - Hero of Halfworld

Groot - Five Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Although the looks for Age of Apocalypse only appeared on an alternative cover 2016, we liked them so much that we had to use them for our game.The team had a lot of fun doing them - especially at Groot, who can release his inner monster in this outfit.Lady Hellbender would probably pay a lot for this.
