George Clooney turns 60! GQ is honoring the star and style hero with a series of articles about his career. Here: the looks of his life – from leather jackets to tuxedos

George Clooney is one of the few Hollywood stars of our time who still qualifies as a classic version of one and still has a certain appeal to younger audiences. This is probably due to his charm, talent and good nature, which has made him so successful for many years. (Interesting: The Great George Clooney Portrait)

He may not stand for "high fashion" - and yet many fans orientate themselves towards his look, which is usually appropriate to the occasion, but sometimes also goes hand in hand with a certain (riding) nonchalance. (Also read: George Clooney in the big GQ interview: Hollywood's biggest star)

Clicking through the thousands of photos of George Clooney from the 1980s to the present, one realizes the following, entirely subjective, things about his "fashion sense":

George Clooney always looks his best in Italy. He seems to have internalized “La Dolce Vita” so much that he slips out of the speedboat in Venice or on Lake Como in white (!) shoes (no sneakers!) like out of an Antonioni film. In addition (deep) unbuttoned shirt, light trousers and the mischievous Clooney smile. Dov'è il mio aperitivo?

George Clooney can hobble reasonably (coolly) down the red carpet even in crutches. Probably due to the reasons for these walking aids that are commonly associated as masculine: accidents with various fast vehicles. (Remember? George Clooney auctioned off his Harley-Davidson to please Amal)

George Clooney always looks good in all black - and he knows it. (Also interesting: All Black Outfit – this is how the fashion trend works)

The color brown is a big no-no for Mr. Clooney. Unfortunately to his ignorance - or he doesn't care (probably the latter).

Bow tie yes, no tie please! Humphrey Bogart would be appalled.

Long before dad jeans became a trend, they were a constant companion on long plane trips by Clooney.

George Clooney always looks his best (after Italy) when he gets to talk about serious issues (see UN press conferences). Perfectly fitting suit, correct haircut, tie (exceptionally). The man just knows how to use fashionable tricks to win people over for a good cause. John F. Kennedy already knew that. From this we conclude: George for President! (Worth reading: Rolex, Omega & Cartier: These are the watches from JFK)

He likes to keep it casual on cover shoots. Just not too much styling fanfare or big outfit changes. With the necessary self-confidence and sense of style, you can also do a GQ shoot (for our December 2020 issue) in jeans and a T-shirt. But for the cover you need a suit.

And one last thing to note: George definitely has a penchant for the slob. When he doesn't have to dress up for an official occasion (or is in Italy), the polo shirt/loose jeans combo wins. You can't blame him either. After all, he turns sexy sixty and is therefore above any fashion judgement.
