The Italian ESC participants Mahmood & Blanco (lead photo) have every reason to laugh – and to celebrate: because they not only won the Sanremo Festival; Even with the incorruptible ESC barometer, they show the existing and upcoming competitors who needs to be beaten - namely them. Her "Brividi" was the only song ever-ever-ever to have more than 60% "is excellent" ratings from our readers. THE ROOP reached 57% last year. Can that be topped this year?

For the ESC barometer, we ask you here on ESC compact for your opinion immediately after the decision or publication of a contribution (artist and song). You can rate it on a five-point scale from very good to very terrible. In order to get as spontaneous an impression as possible, the survey ends after three days. If a significant change is made to a song, we start the survey again.

We then look at three evaluation categories separately: the average rating, the percentage of top ratings and the polarimeter. The latter summarizes the best and worst ratings. And then there's our blog's own ESC compact index, the EKI. Here the ratings are weighted, shaken and stirred and then re-reported. We have been able to predict some ESC placements better than the bookmakers. Others, on the other hand, are less good.

As since 2019, we start with the average value. We don't give that separately, but show you how the five categories are designed for the individual contributions. Mahmood and Blanco are in a league of their own here. If you take the two ratings "is really excellent" and "I like it" together, they reach 82%. It almost borders on a mathematical miracle that there are three percent who find the contribution "very terrible". It doesn't look that much worse for We Are Domi from the Czech Republic in the top 2 consideration: 75% are their fault.

Zdob și Zdub & Fraţii Advahov from Moldova only dream. Their song "Trenuleţul" received the worst average rating. However, 10% also find the contribution “excellent”. Accordingly, they move up to 6th place in this analysis. The Bulgarian Intelligent Music Project doesn't look all that smart here with last place.

The Italians are also ahead when it comes to polarimeters. Here, however, the Moldovans move up to second place – even if only just ahead of Albania. Of course, they have the 25% voters to thank for that, who find their song “very terrible”. Andrea from North Macedonia, on the other hand, hardly polarizes at all. It will still need an exciting performance to not go under in Turin.

We are now bringing together the various evaluation approaches in our ESC compact index. The EKI (ESC-kompakt-Index) is the average placement of a contribution according to five criteria, each of which is ranked individually: Individual consideration "is very excellent", top 2 consideration "is very excellent" and "I like it" together, average rating , Polarimeter Index and inverse Couldn't Care Less Index (ranking from lowest "so la la" score (1st place) to highest (last place).

The 1.00 for Italy shows that the duo achieved the best placement in all five criteria. They are followed by the Czech Republic and Albania. The top 3 here is therefore identical to the average value. While the Moldovans can still have some hopes, it is very difficult for Brooke from Ireland and Bulgaria - if our EKI is right. But of course we can't even do a quarter of all the contributions.

The next edition of the ESC compact barometer will be available in the middle of next week.

Does our evaluation agree with your opinion about the contributions? Feel free to discuss under this article.
