Although costume designers Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago had worked on Sex and the City and the films that followed, nothing could have prepared them for the social media hype when the first photos from the reboot series And Just Like That... came out in July. "It was really powerful to see how quickly [photos from the show] spread across the universe," says Rogers. "As soon as one foot stepped out of a trailer on set, the paparazzi snapped it - and less than five minutes later the photo was online."

Not only did the photographers keep a close eye on the cast's every step (both during and after filming), but a few days after the release of the first photo, an account called @justlikethatcloset popped up on Instagram, dedicated to the wanted to devote to fashion in the series. The anticipation of the show finally reached its climax at what Rogers calls the “Forever 21 Gate”. Outrage abounded when a photo of Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw in a maxi dress that fans misidentified as Forever 21 (and therefore fast fashion) ran rampant. “[The Internet] has brought the world closer together,” says Rogers. "But at the same time, it also allows us to look at everything very closely." Rogers and Santiago then decided to become the first costume designers ever to create their own Instagram account for their series. At @andjustlikethatcostumes, they take us behind the scenes of how they dress the show's characters. "We wanted an account like this, but we wanted to be able to control it ourselves," explains Rogers.

For the series, which is currently available to stream on Sky Ticket, Rogers and Santiago dreamed up a new style for their main characters, who are now in their 50s, and combined it with unforgettable pieces from the original series. "Even though a lot of time has passed, they're still the same people," Santiago says.

Rogers and Santiago stayed true to Carrie's love of versatility for her looks, styling her in a draped blue Norma Kamali dress with Aquazzura shoes for one scene, then in a menswear-inspired Jean Paul Gaultier suit for the next scene from 1997. They also made sure to incorporate Carrie's signature looks—including the Fendi 'Baguette' bag that was stolen from SATC in Season 3; the blue Manolo Blahnik "Hangisi" pumps worn by Mr. Big Carrie to propose in the first SATC film; a pair of Miu Miu platform shoes from the first scene of season six; and a blue flower brooch from her relationship with Bill Kelley. But it was one accessory in particular – a feathered, bird-like fascinator – that generated the most hype online. "I knew everyone would be upset about it," says Rogers. Some speculated that this nod to her look for the first failed wedding could be a sign that Carrie and Mr. Big in And Just Like That... were getting divorced.

Back when Rogers Field was assisting on Sex and the City, the two roamed the New York club scene in search of designers and costume inspiration. "Sometimes we'd see a strong outfit on someone in a club and we'd be like, 'Who are you?'" says Rogers. "Those days are over." This time, Rogers and Santiago turned to Instagram to discover new, up-and-coming designers. One of Rogers' favorites is Rodney Patterson - a milliner in Bushwick, Brooklyn - whom she had created a straw hat for Carrie. "You can just send Rodney someone's head measurements and they'll give you a hat in the color of your choice the next day," she says.

With their looks, Rogers and Santiago want to take viewers back to the time when they had to wait for a new episode every week and really appreciated every costume. "We had a great time making this work and love the looks we put together," says Santiago. "Hopefully viewers see it that way and don't try to totally tear the outfits apart."

And as for the "Forever 21 Gate," Rogers says we should wait a while to understand why Carrie is wearing that outfit in the first place. "Then we can talk about it."
