There is a lot of movement in the gaming industry. Companies like Tencent, Microsoft, Take-Two and other big players are swallowing up other big players. And Sony has also freed up a few billion dollars for acquisitions. Most recently, Bungie was bagged for $3.6 billion.
It won't be the last takeover Sony plans to do. According to recent reports, the PS5 manufacturer still has about ten billion dollars left, which could be invested in various places in the foreseeable future. The takeover of an entire publisher does not seem to be the most likely scenario. But based on the market capitalization of various companies, it would be at least a theoretical possibility.
Most players want Square Enix
Over the weekend we started a survey in which we wanted to know which publisher, which would be financially possible, is one of your favorites. Based on the market capitalization, possible takeover candidates would be Ubisoft, Square Enix, Konami, Capcom, Sega and also Embracer.
The result of the survey, in which around 4,200 users took part, was quite clear. 36 percent of the participants want a takeover of Square Enix. Ubisoft landed in second place with a good distance with at least 22 percent of the votes. Konami came third with 13 percent. Below is the ranking:
- Square Enix: 36 percent
- Ubisoft: 22 percent
- Konami: 13 percent
- Capcom: 12 percent
- Sega: 3 percent
- Embarcer: 1 percent
A few percent are missing because the poll had two more options. The participants were able to vote that they did not want a publisher to be taken over at all. Ten percent of the participants chose this option. Four percent of the participants chose another publisher, who could be named in the comments. The names of smaller studios and companies were often mentioned there as well. From Software was mentioned particularly frequently.

It is not known whether Sony actually has its eye on a complete publisher or whether it is still pursuing the strategy of taking over individual studios.
