From December 20th, Aldi Nord will sell an overlock sewing machine for 139 euros. We have looked at the offer and selected an alternative for you.
If you want to sew your own clothes and want to sew stretchy cotton fabrics or heavier trousers or sew a coat with inner lining, it can make sense to purchase an overlock sewing machine. You can use it to sew and overcast pieces of fabric in one operation and cut the thread at the same time. In addition, when sewing with up to two needles and up to four threads, you can achieve more durable seams than with an ordinary upper-lower-thread sewing machine.
From Thursday, December 20th, Aldi Nord will be offering the overlock sewing machine model MD 18030 from the manufacturer Medion for 139 euros in its branches.
Medion MD 18030: product details
Maybe as a beginner model
We are not necessarily the sewing machine experts here at CHIP, but the Medion machine is almost certainly not even a semi-professional device at the price. Even the cheaper competition costs around 200 euros. With a little good will, one can recommend such a model as a beginner's model, i.e. to try it out (or to get used to it), depending on how easy it is to use and adjust. If you read the reviews, this seems to be a nerve-wracking process, even with more expensive models, so if you are actually interested in sewing, advice in a specialist shop would probably be the most sensible thing to do.Shop recommendation for sewing machinesBrother Innov-is F400 sewing machine white/red679 .00 €Janome DC 230 sewing machine347.00 €Gritzner 788 overlock + book, 5 special sewing feet and waste container275.00 €Bernina B 3251,099.00 €Singer One white sewing machine283.21 €Carina Professional sewing machine229.00 €W6 N1235/61 sewing machine191.99 € Singer Mercury 8280 free-arm sewing machine115.90 €Singer Tradition 2250 free-arm sewing machine123.60 €Compare other sewing machinesOffer from BestCheck.de | Prices incl. The W6 Wertarbeit N 454D currently costs 204.99 euros on Amazon. Above all, the manufacturer emphasizes the good and easy operation of the machine, which would make it particularly suitable for overlock or sewing beginners.

Our assessment: With this offer, you get - in contrast to the Aldi offer - at least the 969 customer reviews, a few clues that go beyond the manufacturer's information as to whether you should buy the device at all. Based on the reviews, one gets the impression that most customers are satisfied: it received a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. Customers point out that operation is very convenient, but that some work steps, such as correct threading, can only be done smoothly with a lot of practice.
