Nivea Creme is popular in Germany. However, a recent test with other products makes you sit up and take notice. It delivers shocking results.

NRW - The range of products from the Nivea brand is now huge and is no longer limited to the famous cream in the blue jar. But awareness also automatically means that the branded product is worth something? The SWR took a close look at the brand in its market check.

Testing Nivea Creme: Consumers associate quality with the creme

As the television broadcaster found out, the consumers surveyed actually associate the Nivea brand with positive attributes and quality. The cream is therefore cheap, trustworthy and has a good recognition value. 93% of the world's population should also know the brand.

But how good are Nivea products really? The SWR wanted to put this to the test, as reported by consumer protection. Not only the well-known cream, but also the brand's deodorant were examined. To ensure that the test remains independent, six subjects test different deodorants.

Not just cream: This is how Nivea deodorants perform in the test

For men, the SWR also examined products from Ax and L'Oréal in addition to deodorant from Nivea in its market check. Sprays from Adidas and Dove were also examined for women. With neutral bottles and sweat pads under their arms, the subjects tested a different deodorant every day.

The verdict should result in a test by odor experts. The shocking result: The testers found that sweat pads used without deodorant sometimes smelled more pleasant than those used with a spray. In the end, one of the six deodorants tested was convincing: the men's deodorant from L'Oréal.

Myth Nivea: Shocking results for the well-known brand

In a second run, antiperspirant deodorants from Nivea and other brands were tested. Although these are generally considered to be effective, they have long been criticized for their aluminum content. However, as experts recently found out, aluminum in deodorant is harmless.

When it comes to the antiperspirant deodorants, almost all test persons notice that the armpits feel fresher with the deodorant. The products actually reduced the amount of sweat among women, but Ax and Nivea failed in the test for men (more service articles at RUHR24.de).

Since the Nivea brand did not do well in both tests, consumer expectations were not met here. But what about the famous cream?

Nivea uses cheap ingredients in its cream - care is different

In order to check this, Marktcheck had Nivea's facial care products tested by two female students. The skin of the two was examined by a skin specialist before and after the test. The result here is worrying: the complexion of the two test persons even worsened after the care with the cream from Nivea.

One reason for this could be the ingredients of the cream. According to the Federal Environment Agency, the ingredients don't match the brand's image either. Because: Nivea uses many cheap ingredients from mineral oil. It also contains allergy-causing fragrances. According to experts, this combination is neither particularly nourishing nor well tolerated.

The products from Nivea were therefore not convincing in the market check. Nevertheless, consumer confidence in the brand is high.

Although Marktcheck praises the fact that the brand does a lot of things right with its structure and marketing, it should improve in the areas of quality and ingredients in its products, as well as in the cream.
