Anyone who has a little princess at home knows it quite well when she runs around like a savage or plays in the garden, but no one can take her tulle skirt despite the dirt. Well, unfortunately, he also has to go in the washing machine from time to time or the child outgrows his clothes and at least a second one is needed. However, even beginners can easily sew a tutu. It's an easy beginner project that takes less than an hour and is sure to bring great joy to the little girl.
Sewing a tutu – instructions for beginners
AdvertisementA tutu can be conjured up quickly and easily with or without sewing. Of course, the first variant looks more appealing and professional. The second option is left to you if you don't have a sewing machine available, but it is much more complex and takes more time. In the first tutorial we show how to sew a tulle tutu yourself. Materials needed:

The tulle is usually available by the meter and is around 150 cm wide. How many meters do you need to make a tulle skirt yourself? It would be enough for you 60 cm or less if you sew the leftover pieces together. Of course, if the child is taller or you want the skirt to be a little longer, more fabric will be needed. One piece of fabric is divided by three to get the actual width of the skirt. In this sense, for 30 cm long skirt, at least 90 cm are needed. Our tip: add another 5-10 cm.

Divide the whole piece of fabric in three and cut into three equal pieces. Sew these together on both sides to form a whole and connect them into a large ring. On one long side you should sew a tunnel. First sew the long upper edge together either with an overlock or the sewing machine. Fold this seam over, fold the waistband over again and secure with pins.

Now sew along the edge where you marked with the pins. Stop just before the beginning of the seam and leave a gap, which you can then use to pull the elastic band through. Now take a safety pin, attach to the end of the elastic, and then pull through the tunnel. If you have the desired waist size, knot tightly or sew the two rubber ends together.
Finally, close the tunnel and, if you wish, you can attach a small satin ribbon bow to the front. The tutu has some transparency due to the tulle. If this is not desired, you can replace one layer of tulle with one made of opaque fabric, such as crinkle. The procedure remains the same as in the instructions above.
Sew a romantic tutu
The tutu becomes more voluminous and really ballerina-like when the layers of tulle are pulled apart, ruffled. It also appears more airy and really light, as it should be. The elastic at the waistband can be replaced with a wide satin ribbon for easier size adjustment. But the skirt stays a little looser and maybe not as stable as usual. We recommend using elastic band that is about 2cm wide. Measure the child's waist and cut the band 3-4cm shorter so that it stays in place and does not slip off during movement.

Make your own tulle skirt without sewing
Sewing a tutu actually works without a sewing machine, without sewing at all. For this you need several narrow strips of tulle. The more you have, the more lush and gorgeous the tutu will be. For example, you can sew 60cm as an average width of a tulle ribbon. So the tulle skirt ends up being a little less than 30cm long. A wide elastic band is still needed, which will circumscribe the girl's waist.
Knot tulle strips around elastic band
Sew the elastic tightly together to make a whole ring. Now start to tie the tulle ribbons to it. Take a strip of tulle and use it to form a loop with open ends of equal length. So attach the to the elastic from behind and pull the ends through the loop. Make sure you get the loop and ends evenly. Continue until the elastic fills up, then you have completed the first layer of tulle. Repeat several times until the skirt becomes really lush.
