Reduction of peeling
For a healthy complexion, one often resorts to exfoliation. Old skin flakes are removed so that cell production is boosted. At the same time, micro-tears form in the skin, which are desired and result in a healing process - with the result that the skin regenerates itself. With age and the onset of menopause, however, it becomes increasingly difficult for the skin to renew itself. After all, the responsible estrogen is no longer produced in full by the body.
So when women over 50 now use an exfoliant to slough off old skin cells, it now takes longer for the skin to recover from the treatment. That's why the British dermatologist Anjali Mahto advises against stressing mature skin with it. Exfoliation should be avoided completely, especially if you have dry skin. It simply no longer has the desired effect, the skin no longer tolerates it so well. It would be better here to simply dry off with a thick, rough towel after the shower. The dead skin cells could thus be easily removed and this form of light peeling is definitely better tolerated by the skin.
However, if you absolutely cannot do without it, you should switch to gentle alternatives and make sure to provide your skin with sufficient moisture afterwards.
